A good headshot opens doors, but a mugshot slams them shut for a minute. These faces defined movies and TV from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, then they met a booking desk under some bright and unflattering lights. Scroll on for 20 mugshots that show big names meeting bigger consequences.
1. Kiefer Sutherland

Kiefer brooded through The Lost Boys and sharpened courtroom tension in A Few Good Men. Later, he became TV’s toughest face. He was booked in Los Angeles in 2007 after a DUI stop.
2. Mel Gibson

Gibson powered the ’80s and ’90s with Mad Max, Lethal Weapon, and Braveheart, and his name stayed everywhere. He was arrested in Malibu in 2006 on a DUI.
3. Wesley Snipes

Snipes owned the ’90s with White Men Can’t Jump and Blade, and he moved easily from comedy to action. He was later booked in a federal tax case and served time for failing to file returns.
4. Nicholas Cage

Cage lit up the ’90s with Leaving Las Vegas, The Rock, and Face/Off, and he kept chasing for big swings. He was arrested in New Orleans in 2011 after a street dispute. The case was later dropped.
5. Cuba Gooding Jr.

He won the ’90s with Jerry Maguire and made “Show me the money” a classic line. He was briefly arrested in New Orleans in 2012 after a bar incident.
6. Aidan Quinn

Quinn broke through with Desperately Seeking Susan and steadied the ’90s with Legend of the Fall. He was briefly booked in the early 1990s for a minor incident.
7. Tom Sizemore

Sizemore was the heartbeat of Heat and Saving Private Ryan. He was arrested several times in the 2000s on drug and probation issues.
8. Christian Slater

He gave Heathers its bite and sparked the ’90s in True Romance. He was booked in the mid-1990s after an airport incident, and he served a brief time.
9. Randy Quaid

10. Edward Furlong

12. Mickey Rourke

Rourke smoldered through the ’80s in 9 1/2 Weeks and Barfly, and he reinvented himself more than once. He was arrested in Miami in 1994 after a dispute, and the charges were later dropped.
13. Hugh Grant

He charmed the ’90s in Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill. He was arrested in Los Angeles in 1995 during a vice sting, and the scandal went global.
14. Robert Downey Jr.

He dazzled in Less Than Zero and Chaplin, and the ’90s made him a legend and a cautionary tale. He was arrested several times on drug-related charges.
15. Matthew McConaughey

18. Steve McQueen

20. Vince Vaughn

Vaughn jumped from Swingers to ’90s hits, and he kept the laid-back snap in bigger roles. He was arrested in 2018 in Manhattan Beach on a DUI.
