In The Dark Knight, Heath Ledger improvised the moment when the Joker claps and fiddles with the detonator after the hospital explosion briefly stops. The explosion was supposed to go off immediately, but when it didn’t, Ledger stayed in character, hitting the button again and reacting in a way that made the scene even more iconic.
