Black Friday once meant leaving the house, heading to crowded stores, and hoping the item you wanted was still on the shelf when you got there. To younger generations used to online shopping and instant deals, that whole experience can sound almost absurd. But there was something memorable about the chase, the crowds, and the excitement of finding that one prized gift in person.

Today, shopping from a phone has made everything faster and easier, but it has also removed some of the adventure. These throwback photos of Black Friday and holiday shopping capture an era when bargain hunting was a much more physical, chaotic, and social experience.
