The mid-1920s were a time of bold fashion, jazz-filled nights, and rapid cultural change. It was an era that pulsed with energy, where cities buzzed with new technology and social boundaries were tested. Until recently, much of what we knew about this decade came through black-and-white photographs, leaving parts of the past feeling distant and harder to connect with. But through the careful process of colorization, those once hard to connect with images are being brought back to life in full detail.
With each image, we’re offered a richer sense of the people, the places, and the stories that shaped the decade. From bustling urban streets to quiet rural scenes, the addition of color makes history feel more immediate and more real. It’s a chance to see the world as it might have looked to those who lived it, and to feel just a little closer to a time long past. Here are 20 colorized photos from the mid-1920s.
