Garage sales are always a bit of a gamble. Sometimes you stumble across a hidden gem, and other times you find something that makes you question why it was ever put out for sale in the first place. What looks like a treasure to one person might look like pure junk to another, and that’s part of the fun. You never really know if you are walking away with a bargain or a good story to tell later.

For every lucky find, there is always a table filled with odd items that probably should have stayed in the attic or gone straight to the trash. From strange decorations to things no one can quite figure out, these twenty garage sale fails prove that not everything deserves a second home. Some will make you laugh, some will make you cringe, but all of them remind us that a good deal is sometimes just a matter of perspective.

Meet the Writer

Patrick is a writer based in upstate New York, where he grew up and still calls home. He’s also drawn to unsolved mysteries and whatever the internet can’t stop talking about.

Whether it’s a centuries-old legend or a bizarre internet rabbit hole, Patrick is always chasing the threads of a compelling story. When he’s not chasing stories, Pat’s probably hiking mountain trails with his dog, exploring new corners of the U.S., or doom-scrolling between hangouts with friends and family. He finds inspiration in nature, forgotten places, and random conversations—anything that sparks curiosity. Whether it’s city streets or backcountry paths, Patrick’s always on the lookout for the next great story.
