But before bringing these iconic characters to life on screen, these actors went through the same experiences most of us did, including high school.

6. Viggo Mortensen

As Aragorn, Viggo Mortensen looked every bit the rugged king of Gondor. As you can see in the picture, the dark hair in the films was actually a wig, his natural hair is blond. Long before leading armies in Middle-earth, he was just another student finding his path.
7. Sean Astin

Sean Astin gave us one of the most loyal characters in fantasy history as Samwise Gamgee. Years ahead of that adventure, before helping Frodo reach Mount Doom, he was already growing up around the film industry and building his own path as an actor. Charming and charismatic on and off screen.
8. Christopher Lee

Christopher Lee’s portrayal of Saruman gave the wizard a chilling presence and changed the fantasy world forever. Even though his characters made him stand out among fans around the world, his career was already legendary.

9. Lee Pace

Lee Pace brought Thranduil, the enigmatic Elvenking, to life in The Hobbit. With his piercing gaze and ethereal presence, he captivated audiences around the world, embodying the elegance and mystery of the elves. Beyond Middle-earth, Pace has built an impressive career in film and theatre, showcasing his versatility and talent across a wide range of roles.
10. Hugo Weaving

As Elrond, Hugo Weaving brought wisdom and authority to the Lord of Rivendell. Even though he’s not the most beloved character, we know that life doesn’t necessarily imitate art. He developed an interest in acting during his school years and participated in theater productions before pursuing a professional career.
12. David Wenham

Let’s introduce our beloved Faramir. With his portrayal in The Lord of the Rings, David Wenham brought to life a character who became deeply loved by audiences and especially understood by those who have ever felt like outsiders. Now it’s the turn of one of our favorite elves. From an early age, Cate Blanchett’s talent was already shining through. Over the years, she has gone on to become an incredible actress with an outstanding career, bringing wisdom, grace, and a touch of Elvish magic to every role she takes on. You can find her at the center of the second row.
14. Sean Bean

Boromir has always been a cherished character, with a heartbreaking ending that left a mark on fans everywhere. His love for his family and friends guided every step of his journey. Sean Bean, with his unique talent, has left an unforgettable impression across multiple fan worlds, from The Lord of the Rings to Game of Thrones, captivating generations with his memorable characters.
15. Luke Evans

Luke Evans brought Bard the Bowman to life in The Hobbit, a character admired for his bravery and his strong, fatherly presence. Many fans fell in love the moment he appeared on screen, captivated not just by his heroism, but by the warmth and courage of his heart. Here’s a cute throwback for you.
