Breakdancing exploded into popularity during the 1980s and quickly became one of the most recognizable aspects of the decade’s street style and music scene. Born out of hip hop culture, it combined athleticism, creativity, and competition in a way that felt completely new at the time. A boombox and some cardboard turned ordinary places into performance spaces where dancers pushed themselves to invent moves that seemed almost impossible.
