These 20 vintage photos of mechanics in the 1890s through the 1960s prove that mechanics are the backbone of our society. Before high-tech diagnostics and spotless service bays, mechanics worked with bare hands, sharp minds, and simple tools. From the late 19th century through the mid-20th century, these skilled workers were the backbone of a world shifting rapidly from steam and steel to gasoline and chrome.
