The early eighties sat in a fascinating space between two eras. The bold energy of the seventies hadn’t quite faded, and the high-tech feel of the eighties was just beginning to emerge. Cassette tapes clicked into place, arcade machines lit up dark arcades, and fashion was nothing less than unapologetic. Life moved a little slower, and people were more present in it.
You’ll see kids riding bikes, families gathering together, and friends spending time together with no distractions. There is something warm and familiar in these photos, even if you didn’t experience the eighties yourself. They are simple snapshots of everyday life, but together they tell a story about how the early eighties truly were. Let’s take a look at 44 vintage photos that show the way we were in the early eighties.
