Time has a funny way of changing places without us noticing. A quiet country road becomes a busy highway. A small neighborhood diner disappears, replaced by something completely different. Entire skylines grow taller while familiar landmarks somehow manage to survive it all. Looking at old photographs beside modern ones is one of the easiest ways to appreciate just how much America has changed.

The comparisons in this collection are more than a history lesson. They invite you to slow down and notice the details that usually go unseen, from buildings that have stood for generations to streets that are almost impossible to recognize today. Some of the changes are remarkable, some are bittersweet, and a few will leave you wondering how so much could change in what feels like the blink of an eye. Patrick Nichols

Patrick is a writer based in upstate New York, where he grew up and still calls home. Over the past year, he’s been diving deep into storytelling, especially tales rooted in history, the Wild West, lost treasures, and ancient artifacts.
