One of my favorite things about old school photos is that they remind you kids have never really changed. Sure, the clothes look different, the desks are made of wood, and nobody has a smartphone tucked into their pocket, but look a little closer, and you’ll still spot the class clown, the kid trying way too hard to look serious, and the friends who couldn’t stop smiling the second a camera appeared.
These photos were taken 101 years ago, yet they don’t feel as distant as you’d expect. They capture the little moments that history books usually skip over: packed classrooms, recess, school portraits, handwritten lessons, and the ordinary routines that shaped childhood a century ago. It’s a fun reminder that while schools have changed dramatically, being a student hasn’t changed quite as much as we like to think.
