When most people think about life in the trenches, they usually picture the big battles. What often gets overlooked are the long hours in between. Soldiers spent days waiting, writing letters home, sharing meals, repairing equipment, trying to stay dry, and doing whatever they could to keep their spirits up. For many, those quiet moments became just as much a part of the experience as the fighting itself.
